The Metta Scheme

We are deeply grateful for the support of the Li Ka Shing Foundation in establishing the “Tsz Shan Monastery Metta Scheme – Patients Subsidy Scheme” (hereafter referred to as “the Metta Scheme”).

The Four Immeasurables:

“With loving-kindness, bring happiness to all sentient beings; with great compassion, liberate sentient beings from suffering.”

Rooted in the Buddhist principle of the Four Immeasurables, the Metta Scheme embodies Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva’s loving-kindness and compassion by providing assistance to patients in easing their physical and emotional suffering and alleviating the financial burden associated with medical treatment.

The Scheme is administered by the “Tsz Shan Monastery Spiritual Counselling Centre”.

[Noted: Applications are accepted only through partner organisations.]

Objectives

The Metta Scheme is designed to support patients undergoing medical treatment whose needs fall outside the coverage of the current social welfare system.

Scope of Funding

The Scheme covers six categories of funding:

  • Transportation costs
  • Caregiver support
  • Allied health support
  • Personal care
  • Emergency support
  • Other needs (suggested by referring agencies)

Target Beneficiaries

To be eligible for financial assistance, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR);
  • Referred by the social workers of the partner organisations of the “Metta Scheme”;
  • Undergoing medical treatment and experiencing financial hardship;
  • On the application date by the referral, the patients have not received any relevant funding from the government or non-governmental organisations for the relevant support;
  • Not a director or employee of the referring organisation, nor animmediate family member of such individuals -  including parents, siblings, children, or persons related by marriage.

Applicants who meet the above criteria and are referred by partner organisations will be eligible for financial assistance.

In case of any dispute, the Foundation reserves the right to make the final decision.
